Is it nut allergy?

Were there symptoms of allergy (urticarial, angioedema, acute asthma, coughing or wheeze, faintness) within 30 – 60 min of eating nuts?

If the child has eaten the nut previously in the same quantity with no reaction, look for other causes.

Education the family about nut allergy (refer to our peanut or tree nut allergy information leaflet)

Provide an allergy management plan

If the child has asthma, make sure it is well controlled

If the child has suffered from anaphylaxis

Refer to a health care professional experienced in looking after children with severe food allergies for further assessment, prescription of an adrenaline auto-injector and management
